Working in Clapham Junction
South of the tracks, the Between the Commons grid off Northcote Road is four and five storey Victorian terraces with lower-ground floors, most of them reunified into single family houses with side returns and loft conversions. North towards Falcon Road and York Road the same period stock survives but stayed subdivided into flats, alongside the Winstanley and York Road estates, which are being redeveloped in phases. Around the station itself there is a growing band of new mansion-block style apartments and converted railway-side warehouses.
The C4 zone runs a one-hour sub-zone around the station: visitors have to use pay and display, pay by phone with a four-hour maximum, or a paperless visitor permit between 9.30am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday.
Between the Commons houses run to five floors including the lower ground, so a single job can mean four flights, two hose joins and a machine parked two streets away.
With well over a hundred trains an hour passing, brake dust and railway grime settle noticeably fast on sills, sash frames and pale carpets in the streets backing onto the cutting.
Water here is hard, so limescale on taps, screens and kettles takes longer than people expect.
What we get called out for

End of tenancy
The full move-out clean, priced by property size. Oven, inside cupboards, limescale, the lot.

Carpets
Hot water extraction, not a bonnet mop. Most rooms are dry enough to walk on in a couple of hours.

Regular housework
Weekly or fortnightly, charged per cleaner per hour. Same person kept on your house.
